This painting took 5 days to create. It is about the difference between a real Christian and a hypocrite. A real believer relies on the finished work of Jesus Christ. The foot stepping on the skull symbolizes the sins trodden underfoot (Micah 7:19) and overcoming death. The red cloth symbolizes the blood of Christ. Having it over the skull means "Death is swallowed up in victory" (1 Corinthians 15:54-57). The butterfly symbolizes change and repentance. And the cross on his forehead is the seal of God among his people (John 6:27; 2 Timothy 2:19; Revelation 9:4). A real believer also has the spirit of discernment, which means he recognizes deception (1 Corinthians 12:10, 1 John 4:1).
A hypocrite is a self-righteous performer. He does rituals and prays out loud to be seen by many, to be praised by them for his own works, and to exalt himself above everyone else. The fake wings give him the impression that he is at the same level as the angels. The gold mask reveals that he actually doesn't have the seal of God. The truth is, he is just a wolf in sheep's clothing (Matthew 7:15).
